New Delhi [India], June 4 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and senior spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi launched a scathing attack on the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP, Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of making 'objectionable and cheap' remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
'Rahul Gandhi has proved again that he does not have the ability and maturity to handle a post like the Leader of the Opposition and has shown his lack of wisdom and low standards,' said Trivedi.
Escalating the political war of words, Trivedi reiterated that Rahul's remarks displayed a lack of political wisdom. 'By making objectionable and cheap comments about PM Narendra Modi, he has once again proved that he does not have the ability and maturity to handle a serious post like the Leader of the Opposition. By making such statements, Rahul Gandhi has again shown his lack of wisdom and low standards,' he added.
Trivedi also reacted to Rahul Gandhi's remark on the BJP-RSS after the Congress leader alleged that if slight pressure is exerted on them, 'they run away out of fear.' Trivedi countered by saying, 'This is the same BJP and the same organisation that has reduced the once-invincible Congress to irrelevance in many states.'
The BJP MP went on to list what he termed a series of 'surrenders' by Congress governments over the years.
'You said on 15 July 2011 that terrorism cannot be controlled -- that was a surrender to terrorism. After the 26/11 attacks, your government did not permit military retaliation. That, too, was a surrender. In 1971, despite having 93,000 Pakistani soldiers in custody, Indira Gandhi's government failed to reclaim PoK. In 1948, Nehru took the Kashmir issue to the UN and surrendered half of it. At Independence, one-third of the country was surrendered to Jinnah and the Muslim League,' Trivedi stated.
He launched a fierce counterattack on Rahul Gandhi and said, 'Every chapter in the calendar of India's independence is filled with the shameful acts of surrender by your party, your government, and your family,' Trivedi said, lashing out at the Congress.
'The kind of moral support Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given to the army and the unmatched bravery shown by the army under his guidance, he is the lion of Mother India,' he said.
Taking aim at Rahul Gandhi's reference to the US Seventh Fleet during the 1971 Indo-Pak war, Trivedi said, 'When America sent its Seventh Fleet, the Soviet Union responded by sending its own. These aren't matters to be addressed with such immaturity.'
'On 7 December 1971, more than 100 countries passed a resolution against India, but it was the Soviet Union that vetoed it. Even when one-third of Pakistan's army was in our custody, why wasn't Pakistan-occupied Kashmir reclaimed? And why weren't our 54 prisoners of war brought back from Pakistan?' Trivedi questioned.
This comes after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi attacked the BJP-led government on Tuesday over allegations of mediation by the United States in Operation Sindoor.
He alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi 'followed' Donald Trump following a call by the US leader and that the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi did not budge to the US in the 1971 war.
Addressing a convention of Congress workers in Bhopal, LoP Rahul Gandhi said, 'Now, I understand RSS-BJP well. They run away out of fear if slight pressure is put on them. When Trump called Modiji- Modiji kya kar rahe ho, Narender-Surrender and with 'ji hazooor', Narenderji followed Trump. In the 1971 war, Seventh Fleet (came from the US), India Gandhi said I will do whatever I have to do. This is the difference. This is their character; all of them are like this. Since the Independence movement, they have had the habit of writing letters of surrender.'
He also reiterated his attack on social media, X, stating, 'Trump's phone came, and PM Narendra Modi ji immediately surrendered. History is witness. This is the character of the BJP-RSS; they always budge. India had bifurcated Pakistan in 1971 despite the threat by the United States.'
'The 'babbar sher' and 'shernis' of Congress fight the Superpowers, they do not bow,' his post read.
Rahul Gandhi's speech in Madhya Pradesh has sparked reactions from the BJP leaders.
BJP MP Sambit Patra launched a sharp attack on Congress MP and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi for his remarks on India's retaliatory military action against Pakistan and Operation Sindoor, accusing him of 'insulting the country and its armed forces.'
Patra said Rahul Gandhi's speech in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday does not befit any 'civilised politician or any leader of the opposition.'
BJP spokesperson CR Kesavan launched a blistering attack on Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday, accusing him of cowardice and hypocrisy. He alleged that Congress has a legacy of appeasement and weak leadership.
Referring to recent military operations, Kesavan said Gandhi's remarks insulted the armed forces.
BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari also launched a fierce attack on Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of making 'indecent' remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and questioning his values and patriotism.
Bhandari also alleged that the Congress leader's actions, including offering tributes to former PM Indira Gandhi without removing his shoes, reflect a disregard for Indian traditions and respect. (ANI)
