Deportivo Saprissa scored twice in the last 10 minutes to pull out a 2-2 draw Wednesday against the Montreal Impact in the opening leg of a CONCACAF Champions League first-round series at San Jose, Costa Rica.
Saprissa's Ariel Rodriguez scored the tying goal in the 90th minute after Johan Venegas provided the team's opening tally in the 80th minute. Both scores came from short range in front of the goal off crosses from the right flank.
Orji Okwonkwo got the game's first goal in the 12th minute with an 18-yard blast off a rebound after a Saprissa turnover. Romell Quioto doubled the lead 10 minutes later with an impressive 12-yard strike that sailed inside the near post.
The game was the debut of new Impact coach Thierry Henry.
The teams will conclude their two-game, total-goals series in Montreal on Feb. 26.
